Karuna Training - Parts

Karuna Training consists of two parts - a basic and an advanced training.

The basic training focusses on two main parts: personal process, and space awareness. They lead to a deeper understanding of our mind and the energies associated with neurosis and sanity.

The advanced training is further training in working with others, particularly for those people who wish to or do work with others in a professional setting. Acceptance for participation in the second part, which includes project work, is based on an assessment of the ability of participants to apply their training in working for others.

Basic Training

First, a solid understanding of Buddhist psychology and proficiency in the practices of contemplative psychology are developed. Further understanding of meditation coupled with working with our neurosis helps us understand and experience the different energies associated with our neurosis, and how we can also see their enlightened qualities.

The Basic Training consists of the following seminars:

1. Establishing Trust in Inherent Sanity (three day weekend)

2. Taking Confusion as Path (weekend)

3. Emotions as Path (weekend)

4. Creating Environments of Sanity (weekend)

5. Maitri and the Elemental Display of Energy (deepening week)

6. The Heart is a Powerful Healer (weekend)

7. Exchange in the Five Families (deepening week)

8. Compassionate Exchange in Four Steps (weekend)

9. Putting it into Practice (weekend)

10. Brilliant Sanity Dawns (deepening week)

11. Celebrating Brilliant Sanity (3 day weekend)

Advanced Training

Working with Others

Further training in compassionate exchange and working with the energies of states of mind. This culminates in a supervised project in which participants apply their learning in situations where they work with others.

Themes:

Compassionate Exchange in the healing process

Deepening compassionate exchange

Nowness and skilful means in working with others

Project: A self organized project in the participant’s area of interest. The intention of the project is to create a situation that allows participants to apply what has been learned and to gain experience and confidence in the practice of working contemplatively with others

Intensification: Working with energies and compassionate exchange

Transition

Graduation

As we are working on changes in the curriculum the exact format and number of days of the advanced training is still to be determined.
