Contemplative Education

Following the increase in use of contemplative methods and meditation in the areas of health care and stress treatment, as well as in such fields as contemplative psychology, contemplative methods are increasingly being applied in schools and education.

Results of medical research has shown that meditation and other contemplative methods have positive impact on those areas of the brain that are responsible for emotional intelligence and social skills as well as relaxation and regeneration of the brain.  In addition meditation has been shown to help with ADHS and other similar problems.

A variety of contemplative methods can be applied in working with children and young adults, including meditation, contemplation, mindfulness and awareness exercises and space awareness exercises.

These methods help students become more mindful, awake, relaxed and attentive.  Educators find that their presence and effectiveness in the learning environmnet can improve.   Educators who have worked with such methods cite many improvements in the work as a result – including improvement in the learning and concentration abilities of children, learning relationships are deepened, and feelings of responsibility are improved.
