Contemplative Psychology/ Karuna Training
Paul Cashman M.A. is a psychotherapist since 1978. He worked as counsellor and supervisor in various fields of psychology and taught Tibetan Buddhist Psychology at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Paul has been active as a teacher of contemplative psychology for more than twenty years in the US and abroad. Currently he works in private practice in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and conducts seminars in North America and Europe. He is a member of faculty of Karuna Training in Germany and the Netherlands.
Melissa Moore (PhD) is a founding member of Karuna Training's faculty and has taught Contemplative Psychology, Shambhala Training and Maitri Space Awareness in Europe and the US for the past 12 years. She received a Master degree in contemplative Psychology at Naropa University as well as a PhD in Psychological Anthropology at the California Institute of Integral Studies (equivalent to a doctor). She is an experienced psychotherapist and a longtime student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. In her work in contemplative psychology she merges her profesional expertise with 25 years of practice on the Buddhist path. She has recently moved back to her home, California.
Gisela von Keiser-Grenkowitz gained her diploma in Social Pedagogy at Munich University of Applied Sciences, in addition to further training in various areas of humanistic and transpersonal psychology, like imagination therapy, client-focussed dialogue and Hakomi. She studied contemplative psychology and body-oriented psychotherapy at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. She opened the first practice for contemplative psychology within Germany in Frankfurt, and has worked there in independent practiceas therapist and supervisor. She furthermore worked in terminal care and has created a vocational training for this subject. Gisela is a member of faculty of Karuna Training and a disciple of Sogyal Rinpoche. She is married, a mother of two sons, and lives in Bali.
Barbara Maertens is trained in cultural pedagogy, Zen-arts and contemplative psychology; currently she is director of the Buddhist gate of Shambhala Europe. Barbara Maertens teaches Maitri Space Awareness practice and other contemplative approaches to art, work, and to life in general. Her special emphasis lies in training sense perception and creative expression in individual and group work. She is a Buddhist teacher with more than 20 years of practice. Today she is a member of faculty in Karuna and Upaya, has two grown up children and lives in Cologne, Germany.
Petra Drummer has been working as a secondary school teacher for 30 years. She is also a Buddhist- as well as a Shambhala teacher and accompanies meditators on their path. Since completing her training in contemplative psychology she is active within Karuna Training.
Contemplative Healing/Menla Training Christoph Klonk works as a general practitioner and has knowledge of tibetan medicine and contemplative psychology. He is demand as a translator for tibetan doctors and teachers since many years, especially for Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, who has suggested to carry the principles of contemplative healing into the world.
Dr. Phil Weber has been working as a general practitioner in his own practice in Boulder, Colorado for many years and teaches contemplative healing at Naropa University. Subsequent to his medical training he studied tibetan medicine for many years and works with an integrative approach in his medical practice.
Contemplative Education Richard Brown
Richard C. Brown founded the Contemplative Education department at Naropa University in 1990. Since the 1980 ’s he has taught or been an administrator in Buddhist-inspired schools and programs. He is interested in the application of Buddhist wisdom and skillfulmeans to non-sectarian teacher education, parenting, and spiritual development. Lee Worley
Lee Worley founded the Theatre Studies department at Naropa University in 1976. She has taught pre - school kindergarten, middle school and college and has helped initiate BAs in Interdisciplinary Studies and Inter Arts Performance. Currently she is teaching space awareness and presence work with a variety of populations. Her book, Coming from Nothing: The Sacred Art of Acting, is used as a textbook in Naropa ’s Performance and Contemplative Education departments.
